ALBUQUERQUE — An inmate charged with shooting at an Albuquerque police officer is now facing charges of possession of a deadly weapon after a homemade weapon was found in his cell.
KRQE reports that correctional officers with the Metropolitan Detention Center found a shank in Christopher Cook’s cell on Monday.
The shank was made of two pieces of sharpened plastic held together by a rubber band. It was located under Cook’s bunk.
Cook is being prosecuted for a January shooting involving an Albuquerque police officer during a traffic stop. Officer Lou Golson belived he was pulling over a drunk driver, but Cook ended up firing several shots at Golson.
Golson was hit four times and broke his arm when he fell to the ground before returning fire. He is recovering from his injuries.
