SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office received a thank you letter from the mother of a recently transferred inmate.

According to a statement posted to the department’s Twitter, the man spent three years at their facility where he was charged with homicide. Recently, he was transferred to a state prison to serve out his life sentence.

The inmate’s mother wrote in a letter that she wanted the officers and jail staff to know how grateful she was for their support.

“You treated me and my family with the sincerest respect and you fed my son and kept him well and enabled me to see him and him see his children,” she wrote. “I know it’s not often people say thanks, but I wanted you to know.”

She continued to thank them for every “good morning, coloring sheet, crayon, toy badge and smile.”

“I’m so thankful for being respected and put at ease,” she wrote. “I pray God blesses each one of you and your family, and I’ll keep you in my prayers.”
