TRUMBULL COUNTY, Ohio – A Trumbull County jail officer connected to the April 2014 hostage situation has returned to work after being fired.

James D. Millik was awarded $5,000 but no other back pay for his time off after being fired for allegedly informing three inmates who later too an officer hostage who would be walking tours on their pod the day of the hostage situation, according to Vindy. Millik violated jail policy, leading to his termination.

Millik was approved for unemployment benefits after the Ohio Unemployment Compensation Review Commission ruled his termination was not for just cause. The sheriff’s office appealed that decision, but removed their suit after Millik returned to work.

The sheriff’s office said Millik is currently being retrained to his post.

Correctional Officer Joe Lynn was taken hostage by three inmates, but the standoff ended peacefully five hours later.
