CONCORD — Inmates incarcerated in the state of New Hampshire are no longer allowed to receive cards or crayon drawings from their children because of a rise in drug smuggling through prison mail.
The Union Leader reports that Suboxone, a medication for those addicted to opiates, in particular is increasingly found hidden inside correspondence.
All incoming mail must now be on standard stock stationary or plain postcards and must be written or typewritten in ink or pencil.
Mail is not allowed to have drawings, stickers or other depictions, and breaking this policy will result in the mail being returned to sender.
