SAN QUENTIN, Calif. — A death row inmate at San Quentin State Prison was found dead on Saturday, officials told ABC 7 News.

Fernando Eros Caro, 67, was pronounced dead Saturday night. His cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Caro was sentenced to death for the 1980 murders of Jack Lucchesi, Mark Hatcher and Mary Helen Booher and the attempted murder of Rick Donner, the news station reported.

He fatally shot Hatcher, drove a short distance, and then fatally shot Booher. Caro then crashed into Donner’s car and shot Lucchesi and Donner. He then dumped Hatcher and Booher’s bodies and bikes in a canal before fleeing.
