Riot at Colo. juvenile center results in multiple injuries

According to police, about a dozen youth inmates and a similar number of staff were involved

GOLDEN, Colo. — A disturbance at the Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center in Golden, between juvenile inmates and staff, resulted in multiple injuries Wednesday night, according to police.

The incident, described as a “riot,” happened just before 6 p.m. in a facility unit named Cedar Lodge, according to a police news release.

About a dozen youth inmates and a similar number of staff were involved, police said. Two youth were injured. Further details on their injuries were not immediately released. About 11 staff members suffered minor injuries. Two staffers, however, were taken to a local hospital.

Housing units at the center, 2901 Ford St., Golden, were put on lockdown. There was no threat to the public, police said.

The center is an intensive secure treatment program for about 140 male juvenile offenders, remanded there by court order.
