Tarrant County Texas Buys Odyssey Command Van

These days command vehicles come in all sizes, some as large as a Greyhound bus but they can also come in small packages. Tarrant County Fire in Fort Worth Texas chose Odyssey to build their special command van. Based on a new Ford E350 window van Odyssey added a fiberglass raised roof with special supports for the Will-Burt light tower. On top of the tower is a wide angle color camera wired to a multiplexer and a 7" color flat screen monitor in the center of the three man command area. Special brackets had to be fabricated for emergency lighting and the interior is roomy enough for three commuications operators on swivel office chairs and drawers for their files and preplan maps. From the rear doors is a storage system with adjustable shelves for additional equipment needed at the scene but not during interior command functions. The factory rear air conditioning was ducted over and under the counter for comfort and an easily removable panel under the counter yields easy access to the inverter, shore power equipment and all of the vehicle’s wiring. The exterior was done in one piece Scotchlite material with no seams and all of the doors and edges wrapped.
