RAYMOND, Miss. — The Hinds County Board of Supervisors has declared an emergency for the Detention Center in Raymond.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis says he’ll wait until a special supervisors meeting to answer questions about a gang fight that ended in the death of an inmate at the Detention Center.

One inmate was killed in a gang fight that lead to a riot at the Raymond Detention Center.

One inmate was killed and seven others injured Monday evening in a fight between two gangs at the facility in Raymond, jail officials said.

Jackson Police Chief Lindsey Horton said members of the SWAT team found the inmate, who the county coroner has identified as 21-year-old Markuieze Sherod Bennett, in a jail cell suffering from stab wounds. The Hinds County coroner said an autopsy determined Bennett died of blunt-force trauma the head.
