PROTECH® CORRECTIONS to Showcase Products at Mock Prison Riot

Event Designed to Showcase New Technologies, Train Corrections Personnel

JACKSONVILLE, Fla— PROTECH® Corrections, the law-enforcement industry’s first brand solely focused on defeating the special threats faced by correctional officers, will take part in the annual OLETC Mock Prison Riot™ on the grounds of the former West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, West Virginia, from May 6-9. Several new PROTECH® Corrections products will be tested and demonstrated at this event to evaluate their strength and usefulness for correctional officials facing high-threat situations.

Hosted by the Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization, the National Institute of Justice, the National Corrections and Law Enforcement Training and Technology Center and the West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation, the Mock Prison Riot will showcase emerging corrections and law enforcement technologies.

“The event gives corrections officers and tactical teams the opportunity to use and evaluate new technologies by placing the officers in realistic situations and allowing them to make suggestions for modification of the technologies,” said Pennington Way, senior brand manager, PROTECH® Corrections. The four-day event will also provide corrections personnel from across the world significant training on how to best approach and handle riot situations.

PROTECH® Corrections’ Blackjack®, a versatile, lightweight carrier, and the Corrections Arterial Protection System (CAPS), a system designed to protect the arterial vein inside the thigh, will both be showcased and demonstrated at this year’s Mock Prison Riot. PROTECH® Corrections’ new Prisoner Transport Vest™ (PTV), which offers an alternative to the use of officer vests to protect high-profile inmates, will also be demonstrated.

While PROTECH® Corrections offers several products in durable Cordura® or poly-cotton fabrics, sometimes these fabrics aren’t tough enough to face inmates wielding sharp improvised weapons. PROTECH® Corrections designers researched and tested several fabrics until they selected SuperFabric® as an upgrade option for officers desiring maximum cut and puncture protection.
