Akron is the fifth largest city in Ohio with a population of almost two hundred thousand and isolated in the Great Lakes region south of Lake Erie and along the Little Cuyahoga River.
The Akron Police Department Patrol Bureau is comprised of over 175 sworn officers and 7 civilians. The Patrol Bureau is divided into five platoons and provides 24-hour coverage in the city’s 12 cruiser districts. In addition to regular patrol functions, the bureau utilizes smaller, specially trained units to accomplish specific tasks and goals. In totality these units utilize 140 patrol vehicles.
