SACRAMENTO — California’s prison and parole agency has used dozens of separate computer and paper systems to do business for decades, but all of that will soon change.
The SacBee presented an overview of the new Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s computer system that will be used to streamline its operations. The estimated total cost is $416 million, $243 million of which has been spent to date. Overall, 76.12 percent of the project has been completed.
The CDCR “proposes to replace or integrate almost all existing manual or automated offender management systems and extend system availability to 9,400 new users,” according to a press release by the department.
Currently, there are no red flags reported and the system remains under construction.
