BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. — A 42-year-old Briarcliff man in the Baxter County jail on a burglary charge now faces an additional charge of furnishing prohibited items after jailers found a lighter and hand-rolled cigarettes concealed in his wheelchair, according to a jail report.

On March 13, inmate Sherman Franklin Rowden told jailers he was having chest pains. A jailer checking Rowden’s blood pressure noted an odor similar to tobacco while checking Rowden’s blood pressure. The jailer then reportedly asked a supervisor for permission to search Rowden’s cell.

Upon searching Rowden’s wheelchair, the jailer reportedly found a lighter hidden in the seat area and 12 hand-rolled cigarettes concealed inside the frame, prompting the additional charge of furnishing prohibited items, a felony.
