WASHINGTON — A congressman spoke on the House floor in favor of a bill involving correctional staff and their use of pepper spray.
In a video posted to the YouTube page of Republican representative Morgan Griffith, he refers to a recent incident in which inmates injured officers at USP Lee in Virginia. Griffith said the officers were unable to properly defend themselves because of restrictions at their facility.
H.R. 1175 would authorize the Bureau of Prisons to conduct a pilot program to determine if routinely issuing pepper spray to staff is effective.
