OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — A telephone service employee suspected of stealing more than $40,000 from phone terminals in the Oklahoma County jail has been apprehended.
Thomas Caldwell admitted to taking the cash and running, according to KOKH-TV. He took the money to Las Vegas, where he initially doubled his money before losing it all and returning to Oklahoma.
Deputies started searching for Caldwell on March 7, eventually tracking him to a parking lot. When they arrived, Caldwell pulled a gun and pointed it at his head.
A five-minute-long standoff ensued until the deputies were able to talk Caldwell into dropping the gun.
Caldwell was an employee for Telmate, an inmate telephone service that the jail uses.
