ROMULUS, N.Y. — Six New York correctional officers were injured trying to restrain several inmates during a fight Friday.
The Finger Lake Times reports that the Five Points Correctional Facility had just come off a lockdown when the fights broke out between several inmates. COs were moving inmates from their cell blocks for dinner when two inmates confronted two other inmates and exchanged punches.
The officers managed to restrain and remove some of the inmates while telling the rest to return to their cells. Several refused to comply, and one inmate allegedly charged at another inmate with an object in his hand. The inmate reportedly punched and kicked the COs as they attempted to subdue him.
Four other officers arrived to help gain control of the inmates when two inmates became disruptive and tried to incite the others. One inmate is accused of placing one of the COs in a choke hold. The COs eventually were able to gain control and were evaluated by medical staff.
Six COs were treated at a medical center. One had a broken hand, while the others were treated for scapes and cuts.
All of the inmates involved in the incident face disciplinary measures.
