CHICAGO — Three corrections officers were injured after an inmate repeatedly attacked and tackled multiple officers.

Three deputies were escorting Austin Allen, 31, from a room on Aug. 24 when he became combative in the hallway, WLS reported. Officials said Allen entered an unauthorized area before the attack.

At least a dozen officers attempted to subdue Allen. One CO deployed pepper spray, but Allen kept fighting. The inmate pulls one officer’s leg, causing him to fall down. Another deputy attempted to handcuff Allen, but he resisted.

The inmate can be seen pacing in the hallway before charging at the officers again. He attempts to grab a deputy shirt to bring him to the ground. He was eventually brought to the ground and handcuffed. Three deputies were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Cook County Jail Executive Director Nneka Jones Tapia told WLS that a motive for the attack is unknown. An investigation is ongoing.

Allen faces charges of aggravated battery and two counts of felony resisting, NBC 5 Chicago reported. He was initially jailed on domestic battery.
