ELMIRA, NY — A corrections officer is recovering from his injuries after an inmate attacked him on Thursday.
According to My Twin Tiers, the officer discovered a ceramic scalpel in an inmate’s pocket during a frisk when he was elbowed in the head by the prisoner.
The officer and inmate struggled on the ground until the inmate was eventually restrained.
The officer was transported to a local hospital and treated for abrasions to his face along with his left and right elbows, a left nasal fracture and back pain. He did not return to duty.
The inmate was placed in a special housing unit with pending disciplinary measures.
