Minn. inmate accused of head-butting jail transport officer

The inmate faces two gross misdemeanor fifth-degree assault charges

FOLEY, Minn. — A Sauk Rapids man is accused of head-butting a jail transport officer at the Benton County Jail, according to a criminal complaint filed in Benton County District Court.

Travis Jon Parton, 26, faces two gross misdemeanor fifth-degree assault charges.

The incident occurred Dec. 27 in the jail where Parton was an inmate, according to the complaint. Parton attempted to head-butt a jail transport officer and made contact with the officer’s chin.

The incident was observed by a deputy, the complaint said.

Parton made his initial court appearance Tuesday and has an omnibus hearing scheduled for March 21.

arton was convicted for fifth degree assault in Benton County and sentenced Nov. 1, according to the complaint. Parton was arrested in October on suspicion of robbing a man at a St. Cloud bus stop in mid-September and charged with aiding and abetting aggravated robbery in the first degree, according to court records.
