TOPEKA, Kan. — A corrections officer was taken to a local hospital Thursday morning after being assaulted by an inmate at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex.

According to information provided to The Topeka Capital-Journal from Kansas Department of Corrections spokeswoman Rebecca Witte, the officer was shoved down by the inmate.

Witte wouldn’t comment on the extent of the officer’s injuries but said he is expected to make a full recovery. Witte said the officer was still being treated for injuries at the hospital as of late Thursday afternoon.

Witte said the incident occurred when the inmate refused orders from the officer, and he shoved the officer to the ground causing him to fall and strike his head on the floor.

The incident was under control within a few minutes, and the officer was the only one injured.
