NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A Virginia correctional officer is in critical condition at a hospital after he was robbed and shot Wednesday evening.
WAVY reports that the CO, who police are not identifying, was off duty when the shooting occurred at an apartment complex. Newport News Police said the CO’s girlfriend heard gunshots and found him on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.
Witnesses said they saw an SUV leaving the scene and learned that the officer was robbed and shot. Police did not confirm a motive for the robbery or the description of the vehicle that fled the scene.
Additional details have not been released. Police said they are continuing to investigate the situation.
