ROCHESTER, N.Y. — An Ontario County Jail CO died Sunday at a hospital from injuries sustained in a May 12 crash.

Joshua Shaver, 35, had just finished his shift at the jail when Rebecca Laursen-Castner, 41, ran a stop sign and struck him, the Finger Lakes Times reported. Both cars ended up in a nearby field.

Shaver was extricated from his vehicle and airlifted to the hospital with head and internal injuries. Laursen-Castner was taken to the hospital by ambulance where she was treated for chest and wrist pain and released.

Sheriff Phil Povero told the publication that Shaver will be missed.

“A personal and professional void exists in our law enforcement family,” he said. “Our prayers continue for Officer Shaver and his family.”

Laursen-Castner is charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to yield to the right of way and reckless driving.
