ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — A fire broke out Thursday in a community of correctional officers and destroyed two homes.

WTSP reported that the home of Cassandra and Eric Ross, who are correctional officers at Zephyrhills Correctional Institution, and a fellow corrections officer’s family house next door were completely burned. It’s unclear how the fire began.

Ross’ daughter was inside the home sleeping when the fire began, but her brother managed to rescue her before the fire became worse. The neighbors’ children were able to escape safely as well.

According to the GoFundMe set up for the Ross family, the family also lost both cars.

“Nothing is salvageable. We’ve been looking for days for my wedding ring … I don’t think it’s going to happen,” said Ross.

Their fellow corrections employees are helping them out with immediate needs. The GoFundMe pages for both families will go towards finding a permanent home.
