Slashed Rikers officer a Staten Islander; to speak at City Hall

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Staten Island corrections officer who was slashed at Rikers Island is slated to speak on the steps of City Hall in Manhattan on Monday afternoon.

Injured Officer Raymond Calderon will talk about the attack at an event calling for the City Council and the Department of Correction to make changes and delay implementation of Use of Force Guidelines on Rikers Island.

Calderon, who a source with knowledge of the attack said lives on Staten Island, will be joined at the 1 p.m. news conference by Norman Seabrook, president of the Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association (COBA), elected officials, community leaders and dozens of other corrections officers.
