OKLAHOMA COUNTY, Okla. — A county jail unveiled a new pod dedicated to veterans Tuesday.

The Oklahoman reported that the new pod at the Oklahoma County Jail was refurbished as part of an effort to increase mental health treatment for inmates. The pod includes a group of 50 cells with a max capacity of 98 inmates.

“It’s really just our way of honoring those people,” Oklahoma County Sheriff P.D. Taylor said. “We have a lot of employees that work here at the sheriff’s office (who served), including myself. My professional staff and my jail administrators came to me with an idea of doing something special for people who served in the armed forces. It means a lot to us.”

Three inmates painted the pod, which includes emblems from the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and U.S. Marine Corps. They also painted American flags on the columns of the room and an eagle on the pod’s second floor wall.
