LAREDO, Texas — A Texas sheriff’s office hosts an annual tribute for one of their fallen corrections officers, KGNS.TV reports.
Webb County Sheriff’s Office honors the life of Corrections Officer Jose “Curly” Herrera, who was fatally shot by an inmate on Feb. 3, 1986.
“It’s been very painful to lose a son, but I am proud of him,” Herrera’s mother, Rosalinda, said at Monday’s tribute. “I’m just letting the young officers that are coming into to this [know] to be careful and God Bless.”
The inmate in the case was convicted of capital murder.
