COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – A corrections officer died Monday while supervising an inmate work squad.
According to the Sun Sentinel, 48-year-old Tawanna Marin was struck by a passing vehicle while she was monitoring a group of inmates doing work on a road for the Department of Transportation.
Marin was transported to a hospital, where she died.
“We are absolutely devastated by the tragic passing of Officer Tawanna Marin,” Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Julie Jones said in a press release. “For more than nine years, Officer Marin served our state as a corrections officer, and we are forever grateful for her sacrifice and service to our community.”
Marin worked at the South Florida Reception Center in the city of Doral.
