NEW YORK — The wife of a Rikers Island corrections officer said he was beaten so badly by inmates that he’ll never be able to carry his own child.

According to the New York Post, a lawsuit was filed seeking $1 million in damages against the city and DOC for the officer’s injuries.

Officer Jean Souffrant suffered a broken neck and spinal injuries when he was attacked by inmate Steven Espinal and others in February 2018.

Souffrant now has limited mobility and suffers from flashbacks which the lawsuit claims has upended his and his wife’s lives.

The CO’s now-pregnant wife says she fears “he will not be able to take his role of a normal father” due to the lingering impact of his injuries.
