THOMASTON, Maine — The Maine State Prison Showroom was closed Monday after it was the target of a burglary overnight.
The burglary was reported to Thomaston police Monday morning, according to local Police Chief Kevin Haj. Thousands of dollars in cash was stolen from the showroom, the chief said Monday.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit van was parked outside the building, which is located on Route 1 in Thomaston in a state-owned brick building. A sign taped to the front door said the showroom was closed due to unforeseen circumstances.
The chief said Thomaston Police Sgt. Tim Hoppe was investigating, but no other information was immediately available.
All wood products, from furniture to crafts, displayed in the Maine State Prison Showroom are working at one of the state’s correctional facilities, according to the showroom’s website. The facility remained in Thomaston on Route 1 even after the prison closed in February 2002 and relocated to Warren.
