MUSKEGON, Mich. — A correctional leader that was with the Michigan Department of Corrections for 17 years won’t face punishment for violating work rules.

WZZM reports that Mary Berghuis, the department’s longest-serving employee, did violate work rules, though what she did was not made clear.

DOC spokesperson Chris Gautz said that the department would not be penalizing Berghuis, instead saying the case was closed and both parties have moved on.

Berghuis retired with full benefits effective Thursday, Oct. 1.

She was placed on “stop order” on Sept. 22, a few days after an investigation began by the DOC’s investigative personnel.
