KNOXVILLE, Ga. — An inmate who was mistakenly released from the Crawford County jail last week was re-captured Tuesday morning in Bibb County after he posted “I’m home” on Facebook.
Joshua Keith Ussery, 27, had been behind bars on a felony burglary charge since March until Friday, when a Crawford County detention officer mistakenly released Ussery “due to an oversight,” according to a news release from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
Tracking dogs and Georgia Department of Corrections officers helped scour the area near U.S. 80 and Sandy Point Road after Ussery was spotted there by a deputy not long after his mistaken release.
Less than an hour after the Crawford County sheriff’s office notified the media of the inmate at-large on Friday, Ussery posted on Facebook: “I’m home.”
The post included a picture he took of himself in front of a mirror.
A tipster called Macon Regional Crimestoppers to exchange information about Ussery’s whereabouts for a cash reward, Bibb County sheriff’s Deputy Linda Howard said.
About 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Ussery was booked in the Bibb County jail, records show.
