BROWNSTONE, Ind. — An inmate failed to escape an Indiana jail after collapsing through a ceiling.
Inmate Blaze Ayers, 28, tried to escape on Monday when officers were escorting him and other prisoners back to their holding cells from an indoor recreation area, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Ayers ran into a medical room, climbed into the ceiling and started crawling towards the booking area. Officers tried several times to get him to come down, but Ayers refused.
In released video, officers are seen aiming their ECWs at the ceiling. At one point, Ayers’ torso breaks through the ceiling before several tiles fall, causing him to fall onto the floor.
Officers were forced to use their ECWs on the inmate after he still refused to listen to their commands, officials say.
Ayers was treated for minor injuries by jail medical staff. He was also charged with felony attempted to escape and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
