LYNN COUNTY, Texas Lynn County’s sheriff on Monday revealed more details about the capture of an escaped inmate who was found trying to break into a New Mexico dairy facility over the weekend.

An escaped Lynn County inmate was apprehended on Saturday after an owner of a dairy facility held him at gunpoint while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.

On Monday, Lynn County Sheriff Jerry Franklin said 41-year-old Ismael Ramirez Reyes, who escaped from the Lynn County Jail early Friday morning, remained jailed and is facing multiple charges, including numerous counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, after a jail break that led to a crime spree across West Texas and into New Mexico.

Reyes, Franklin said, led authorities on a multi-county chase as he traded cars in at least three places — Matador and Hall and Donley Counties — before his apprehension in Roosevelt County, New Mexico.

According to Franklin, Reyes was captured when he was caught trying to break into a dairy farm east of Portales, and the owner held him at gunpoint.

Officials arrived on scene a short time later, and Reyes was taken back to Lynn County that day, said Franklin.

When asked about Reyes’ new bond, Franklin said he did not have that information on hand, but “he is not going anywhere any time soon” as he is facing charges in Bailey County and escape charges out of Lynn County.

No other information, including Reyes’ manner of escape, was released by Monday afternoon.
