A manhunt is underway in Oklahoma for an escaped Missouri prison inmate who has evaded authorities twice, officials said.
Travis Davis broke out of Pettis County Jail Sunday night, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He made his way about 300 miles south to LeFlore County, Okla., where he stole a police car at some point.
LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale told the Daily News that authorities found Davis Wednesday morning after he took a woman hostage in Heavener. When he spotted cops, he tried to run but was caught. Davis was then put into the back of a police car behind the cage. The woman was unharmed.
Yet the escapee — who was being held on kidnapping and other charges — managed to slip out of his handcuffs and sneak through the cage to steal the car.
It was later found wrecked a few miles away, off Old Highway 59 in Howe.
Police believe Davis may have hopped on a train heading north.
The Heavener Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and LeFlore County deputies are scouring the area to find the fugitive.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said he should be considered “armed and dangerous.”
