GREENVILLE, Ga. — Authorities are searching for one of two inmates who escaped Tuesday night from the Meriwether County Jail after an inmate was recaptured, Chief Deputy Col. Byron Hadley said late Wednesday.
Officials said Eugene Lamar Mitchell, 34, and Travion Terrell Hall, 29, both of Greenville, Ga., fled their cell blocks around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Hall was recaptured without incident at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at Garden Inn & Suites in Room 108 in Hogansville.
Hall was taken to the Meriwether County Jail where he was booked on charges of escape and interference with government property. He will be held without bond at another jail facility.
Sheriff Chuck Smith said his agency worked in concert with the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. “Our patrol deputies and investigators have been working nonstop tracking down leads and interviewing witnesses regarding these two escapees,” he said in a release. “We were joined early this morning by the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force who were called in to assist us with locating these wanted fugitives. The collaborative effort by both agencies resulted in us being able to locate and identify the whereabouts of Hall who was staying in a room at the Garden Inn & Suites in Hogansville, Ga.”
More charges may be filed against those identified in assisting with Hall’s escape.
Mitchell was last seen around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the Rocky Mount area and has changed out of the orange jump suit, according to the release. The U.S. Marshals are assisting in the search for Mitchell who is still at large.
Anyone with information on the location of Mitchell should call 911 or the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office at 706-672-4489, the sheriff said.
Mitchell, whose last known address is 5363 Rocky Mount Road, was incarcerated on child molestation, aggravated child molestation, incest, aggravated sexual battery, statutory rape and burglary charges. He is 5-foot-10 inches tall and weighs 155 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, according to the release.
