LEAKESVILLE, Mississippi -- An inmate at the South Mississippi Correctional Institution in Leakesville was fatally stabbed today by a fellow inmate, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Merlin Littleton, 37, was pronounced dead at the prison infirmary at 3:37 p.m. He was attacked with a sharp instrument in Unit 8 of the prison, authorities said.
“An initial investigation revealed policy and procedure were not followed,” Commissioner Christopher B. Epps said. “We will take the necessary disciplinary action upon completion of our investigation.”
