LAND O’ LAKES, Fla. — An inmate at the Pasco County jail was found dead Friday morning from a suspected methamphetamine overdose, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The inmate’s name was not immediately released, and the official cause of death will be determined by the Pasco-Pinellas Medical Examiner’s Office.
The death on Friday is one of five recent overdoses at the jail, which is in Land O’ Lakes, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators are looking into how contraband involved in those cases entered the jail.
There is no evidence yet that jail employees are involved, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators believe inmates smuggled in the materials by hiding them in a body cavity.
