STILLWATER, Okla. An inmate at the Payne County Jail came to the assistance of a detention officer on the morning of Aug. 8 after another inmate attacked the officer.

Now, Tashka Robert Frank Maret, 24, is being charged with assault and battery against a police officer and faces a maximum of five years in prison if convicted. The incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. Aug. 8 in booking when Maret asked detention officer Matthew Hudson to go to the bathroom, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

The affidavit reads that after Hudson opened Maret’s cell, he exited and attacked Hudson and fought him for a bit. Then, Robert Charles Hammock, who was seated on the bench in intake and waiting to be released from custody, came to Hudson’s aide and assisted the officer in wrestling Maret to the ground. Other detention officers wrote in the affidavit that they came to booking and assisted in restraining Maret when they heard the report of the incident over their radios.

Maret is scheduled to appear in court at 1:45 p.m. Thursday with legal counsel.
