ANCHORAGE — A woman who shot herself in the head outside an Alaskan maximum-security prison following a demand to release inmates is being treated at a local hospital.
KTUU reports that troopers responded to the Spring Creek Correctional Center after a 31-year-old woman carrying a gun approached the prison’s perimeter.
The troopers wrote in a report that the woman said she would kill herself if the convicted killers were not released.
“Just prior to AST arrival it was reported that the female had shot herself in the head and this was witnessed by several SCCC correctional officers,” the report continued. “CPR was immediately initiated by the correctional officers and SCCC nurses.”
The woman was still breathing when she was taken to Seward Hospital for treatment.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
