CLAY, W.Va. — The West Virginia State Police say a supervisor at Mount Olive Correctional Facility has been fatally shot in a physical altercation with his cousin at their residence in Clay County.
Police identified the victim of the late Wednesday shooting as 33-year-old Brian Deboard. Investigators say 26-year-old Zachary Daniels has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
According to a preliminary state police investigation, Deboard and Daniels were fighting when Daniels gained control of Deboard’s 9mm semi-automatic weapon and shot him. He died at the scene.
State Police says Daniels and Deboard were housemates.
