FARMERVILLE, La. — A state inmate being held at the Union Parish Detention Center is facing three counts of battery of a correctional center employee after throwing urine on three guards.
Joseph D. McLaughlin, 39, was booked last week, the sheriff’s office said.
Department of Corrections inmate McLaughlin was put in a holding cell after being caught taking food out of the kitchen where he worked, Sheriff Dusty Gates tells KNOE-TV. The guards reported he was upset and began fighting them.
As the guards tried to place McLaughlin in a restraining chair, Gates said, he was chemically sprayed. McLaughlin then made his way to a toilet, cupped his hands and started splashing urine on the guards.
McLaughlin told investigators he dipped his hands into the toilet to wash the chemical from his eyes.
