NEW ORLEANS, La. — A federal judge is expected to hold a hearing Thursday to look at the funding of federally-mandated changes at Orleans Parish Prison.
Judge Lance Africk will meet with lawyers for the City of New Orleans and lawyers for Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman, as the two sides are at a stalemate as to who should pay for changes intended for the prison, and laid out in a federal consent decree.
A monitor overseeing reforms at the Orleans Parish Prison says the jail has a long way to go to meet the demands of the federal consent decree.
