A Monroe County Jail officer has been fired from his job after being charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

A Bloomington police officer reported seeing a speeding car with no working license plate light and stopped the car at North Maple Street and West 17th Street at 3 a.m. on June 5.

Jeremy P. Fender, 35, of Bedford, was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment and with a 0.08 blood alcohol content. He spent about six hours at the jail and posted a $500 surety, $500 cash bond.

“I talked to the jail commander about the circumstances, and I advised that he be terminated,” said Monroe County Sheriff Brad Swain.

Fender was a corrections officer for 11 years and held the rank of sergeant.

A pretrial conference for Fender has been scheduled for July 9 in Monroe Circuit Court.
