GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An altercation between a Kent County jail inmate and a correctional officer ended in the officer losing two teeth.

An argument started between the officer and Omar Khattim Ali, 32, after the officer told Ali to settle down after he was seen being unruly in the jail’s day-room, according to MLive. When Ali refused to return to his cell, the officer used pepper spray on him.

Ali then lunged at the officer and struck him in the face with enough force to knock out two teeth.

Ali was then restrained by other inmates until officers arrived.

The officer, whose name was not released, has been treated and is back on the job, minus the two teeth.

Ali is a frequent resident at the jail and has a lengthy but non-violent criminal history. He was days away from release before the incident but now faces between 25 years to live in prison for assaulting a correctional officer.
