SACRAMENTO — All 34 state prisons in California are working to conserve water during the state-wide drought.
YourCentralValley reports that this includes regulating how often toilets are flushed, limiting showers to three times a week and other water saving steps.
The prisons have “drought managers” monitoring each prisons’ water use in order to meet conservation goals.
Bill Sessa, a spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, says that so far the department has saved about 1 and a half billion galls of water each year for the past four years.
