Mock prison escape ‘flawlessly’ tested resources, Fla. sheriff says

MARTIN COUNTY — Sheriff’s offices and other law enforcement agencies collaborated Thursday to capture two “escaped inmates” during an elaborately planned mock prison escape.

The drill at Martin Correctional Institution at 1150 S.W. Allapattah Road in Indiantown began about 8:45 a.m. and ended about 12:30 p.m. when the two corrections officers who played the suspects were caught, said Martin County sheriff’s officials. The escapees realized they couldn’t run from the sheriff’s helicopter hovering overhead, said Sheriff William Snyder, and the sheriff’s K-9 dogs and Corrections Department bloodhounds tracked them down.

“It went flawless,” Snyder said. “The primary focus was to test our resources.”
