OKLAHOMA CITY — A grand jury has determined that no charges will be filed against two Oklahoma jailers in the strangulation death of an inmate who was restrained by jail staff.
The Lawton Constitution reports that district attorney Jason Hicks released the grand jury’s findings Monday.
Darius Robinson died in April in the Caddo County Detention Center. An autopsy determined that the 41-year-old Robinson died from asphyxiation caused by “manual compression of the neck.”
The medical examiner classified Robinson’s death as a homicide. The report says Robinson became violent and agitated, and that jailers used pepper spray and placed him in a neck hold to subdue him.
The grand jury did recommend ways to improve jail safety, including an annual review and allowing the jail administrator to monitor employee training progress.
