Department mourns sudden loss of Mass. correctional officer

Officer Richard Jaquez served the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years and was also a combat veteran

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Friends, family and department members are mourning the sudden death of a correctional officer.

WWLP.com reported that the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office announced the sudden death of Officer Richard Jaquez on their Facebook page. Officer Jaquez, 38, died on February 25. He was a 12-year veteran of the department.

He was also a member of the Correctional Emergency Response Team and Honor Guard, according to the report. Additionally, he was a combat veteran and served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Sheriff Thomas Bowler and the entire BCSO staff express their deepest sympathies to the family of Officer Richard Jaquez,” the department wrote on Facebook.
