The purpose of this position is to direct the nursing services at Montana State Prison. The Director of Nursing is responsible for coordinating and managing the resources to deliver health care of inmates. The DON supervises a staff of registered and licensed practical nurses, Correctional Health Care Technicians and support staff. The Director of Nursing has authority for decisions regarding operation of the nursing program, collecting and projecting fiscal needs affecting the health care budget and most decisions pertaining to the utilization of personnel, contracts service providers, consultants and agency services.
POSITION SPECIFIC INFORMATION: Patients need round-the-clock care; therefore working hours include days, nights, weekends and holidays. The number of patients assigned per shift will vary with facility and specialty, if applicable. RN/LPNs spend considerable time walking, bending, kneeling, stretching and standing; they must follow proper body mechanics and procedures for lifting/moving patients. Corrections Nurses may face hazards from exposure to chemicals and infectious diseases. In addition, nurses in this position must have and maintain sufficient strength, agility and endurance to perform during physical, mental, and emotional situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being.

- Education: Bachelors Degree - Nursing
- Experience: 5 Years
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree of Nursing and 5 or more years of job-related work experience. The experience should include 3-5 years in correctional health care, 3 years of supervision and administration and 5 years of active nursing. Must understand personnel and negotiation process and Continuous Quality Improvement. Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Montana.
