This regular full-time position works under the administration of the Sheriff and serves as part of the Corrections leadership. The Corrections Captain administers a budget of nearly $6 million through the planning, direction, and control of all activities of the Corrections (Jail) Division of the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), comprised of a 259-bed minimum/medium/maximum security corrections facility that includes a Work Release Center for up to 50 inmates and the administration of Courthouse/Campus Security. This unit is responsible for escorting all in-custody inmates to court from the Corrections Facility and supervising them during their court appearances; for the transportation of inmates to and from the Yamhill County Corrections Facility and other Federal, State, and County facilities around Oregon; and provides for the safety and security off all staff and citizens while in the courthouse and its campus in McMinnville. The division is comprised of 34 FTE employees, including 21 FTE sworn corrections deputies, 5 corrections sergeants, and 8 FTE non-sworn employees. The position also oversees contracts for food services, medical services, and maintenance.

- Experience: Eight (8) years’ law enforcement experience and three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Must have earned an Advanced Certification from the Oregon Board on Public Safety Standards and Training, must possess a Supervisory Certificate no later than 12/31/2018, and be working toward, or in possession of, a Management Certification. In addition, the position requires the ability to secure and maintain a driver’s license valid in the state of Oregon and successfully complete a background check which may include physical and psychological assessments.
The successful candidate will be dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and possess the ability to interact with coworkers and the public in a courteous, professional manner. Work requires the exercise of initiative, independent judgment, and discretion insofar as incumbent applies standards and procedures to routine situations. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an aptitude for leadership within a public safety team and establish a history of increasing responsibility. Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of current laws, policies, and procedures; ability to understand complex written or oral directives; ability to develop and apply supervisory skills in a professional manner; and ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.
