TORONTO, Canada — A correctional officers’ union in Canada says the release of a video showing an inmate beating places officers who watched the event in danger.

Global News reports that the video shows two inmates attacking terror suspect Carlos Larmond while correctional officers watch through a window from behind a security door.

A minute into the video, officers intercede in the fight and pull Larmond away from his attackers.

An official with the union said officers were waiting for backup, and called it the right move because “Larmond was not in danger of dying.”

“When I look at the video, as someone who has worked from within the system, it was a textbook example of handling the situation,” Garth Jones said. “Once you crack that door, you need to control the situation or you could lose the whole [jail].”

Jones’ issue with the video’s release is that the faces of the officers aren’t blurred, which could allow inmates and others to make good on threats Larmond has made against staff.

Larmond and his twin were arrested in January after allegedly attempting to travel overseas for terrorist purposes.

Faces of officers in the video have been blurred by Global News.
